Material Shortages Cause Construction Hold Ups

This has certainly been a year of ups and downs.  After a few years of the construction industry getting on and being able to build far more houses – to meet a never ending need, the global pandemic has affected every area of life in most countries.  The lockdown regulations have stopped various industries from being able to operate and when they’ve got going again, they find that parts and materials are not available or are now shifted about instead of being in a reliable and well trusted sequence of deliveries.  My neighbours are struggling with a home extension – they were thrilled when the builder rung to say he’d finished on his current project and could start sooner on theirs.  What he didn’t mention was that this was caused by a lack of internal kitchen parts and materials to finish the job.  However, he’d ordered the neighbour’s stuff months in advance so at least the the exterior and build products were there.  Who’d be a builder at the moment . . . .
